Grandma Burns used to make this bread and it’s a really hearty and rich bread. It is delicious right out of the oven. Highly recommended if your into making bread. This recipe will make 3 large loafs and 1 small loaf.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 5 cups white flour
- 2 cups milk
- 1 stick butter
- 1t salt
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 egg whites
- 2 packages yeast dissolved in 1/2c or less of warm water
- 1 cup Bran
- 2T wheat germ
Directions
- Mix flours
- Heat milk almost to a simmer and then add butter, salt and honey, then cool
- After cooled, add egg whites
- Prepare the yeast and pour into the milk mix
- Add Bran and wheat germ
- Add flours and stir
- Knead the bread for about 10 minutes
- Place in a large bowl for 45 minutes to 1 hour to rise
- Knead the dough again and then put it in loaf pans that have been greased and floured
- Allow the dough to rise again for 1 hour
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 40 minutes
