This is a traditional pound cake from Grandma Shepherd that is very easy to make and probably one of the easiest cake recipes to remember.


  • 1 cup margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 cups flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 3t baking powder
  • 1t salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/2t vanilla extract


  1. Let the margarine warm up to room temperature and then beat with a mixer until creamy
  2. Add the sugar and eggs one at a time to the margarine
  3. Add the flour, baking powder, & salt and continue mixing
  4. Add the milk and vanilla and mix until the ingredients are completely blended
  5. Grease and flour a bunt pan, pour cake batter into the pan
  6. Bake for about 1 1/4 hours at 350 degrees F
  7. Allow to cool and then remove from bunt pan
